Carlisle Mencap History
Carlisle Mencap was founded in June 1968. We provide support and services for more than 500 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families across Cumbria.
We are locally managed and funded, not a branch of the National Mencap Society although we do work closely with them on many of our projects. We are a membership organisation and have over 80 members made up of people with learning disabilities, carers and other interested parties. We believe that everyone with a learning disability has an equal right to choice, opportunity and respect, with the support they need.
We are a forward-thinking organisation with a dedicated team who will always be happy to help you and your family. We have many existing services and can offer support for people of any age with a learning disability. We provide person-centred support to all of our clients and support people with all different types of disabilities. We have an Adults Respite Centre at California House in Carlisle and The Grace Little Centre, which we use as a hub for activities for children.
