Sponsored walk success
FOUR members of Carlisle Mencap - well supported by service users and support walkers - have raised lots of money for the charity after completing the '20 Miles For Carlisle Mencap' sponsored walk.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Sheila Gregory becoming CEO of Carlisle Mencap, Sheila, along with children’s operations services manager Krysia Pantechis, team leader Morag Rowell and events and fundraising officer Phil Taylor, were all sponsored and sucessfully completed 6.4 laps of the 5km nature trail on Sunday, November 4 at Watchtree Nature Reserve, Wiggonby, north Cumbria. “Most people might celebrate such an anniversary with a cake or a meal out – but I decided to walk 20 miles!” said Sheila - and she did!
Also worthy of a mention are support workers Kelsey and Becca who pushed service user Sarah around the nature reserve for the full 20 miles. And members of the Sunday Club, along with other service users and support workers, trustees and the chairwoman of the charity, Christine Bowditch, came along to support the main walkers and in some cases accompany them for parts of the route.
Although the walk is completed, and it is hoped more than £1,300 has been raised, you can still add donations by going to the JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/campaigns/charity/carlislemencap/milesformencap
