Major health and wellbeing initiative

Carlisle Mencap is among those involved in a major new initiative to provide more out-of-hospital care and to help people to take control of their health and wellbeing. At a meeting held at Rheged, near Penrith, on Tuesday June 5, NHS experts, charities, voluntary organisations and councillors were among those told about the roles of Intergrated Care Communities - ICCs - of which there will be eight in Cumbria, and which will see health and social care professionals, GPs, third sector groups and charities like Carlisle Mencap, and the community work as one team. This includes mental health teams to ensure mental and physical health are not treated in isolation. Co-ordinations hubs will be come 'the heartbeat of ICCs' as the initiative aims to look after people in a more responsive way and assess what support is needed to help people remain in their own homes. Mental Health issues will be tackled and focused upon in 'Phase Two' of this scheme. ICCs aim to 'encourage and support individual third sector organisations and represent the third sector at a strategic level, and ensure co-production becomes a reality to deliver key services'. @CumbriaCVS @nhscumbriaccg
