Bungee jumps for fun and fundraising

Date: 21st March Location: Creighton Rugby Club

PEOPLE of all ages are coming forward to take part in our spectacular sponsored bungee jumps event in June - so why not take the plunge and join them?

If you want to take part get in touch with events & fundraising officer PHIL TAYLOR on 01228 674393 or email phil.taylor@carlislemencap.co.uk and he will send you full details and sponsorship forms.

The sponsored bungee jump is part of a bumper weekend of fundraising event for Carlisle Mencap to mark the climax of the charity’s 50th anniversary celebrations. As well as the bungee jumps, there will also be a summer fun day at Creighton on Sunday, featuring stands, tombolas, gift stalls, children’s entertainment, refreshments as well as a bar. The previous night sees a major coup for Carlisle Mencap with a fundraising rock gig at The Brickyard venue in Fisher Street, Carlisle, featuring Europe’s top Jimi Hendrix tribute act – Are You Experienced?

THE JUMP:  Risk assessment, full insurance, liability covered by Extreme Sensations. The jumps are usually from a crane from a height of 40-45 metres (131-147ft). The crane is 2.75 metres wide. Five hours of jumping maximum. 20 people an hour maximum, so up to 100 people a day. Each jump lasts about 4 minutes. Extreme Sensations have been operating for 27 years with 100 per cent safety record. On the day there will be staff, fencing, giant padded area around the drop zone, a reception tent, music and PA system.

WHO CAN/CAN'T DO IT: 14 years age minimum but 14, 15, 16 year-olds must have parent/guardian present. 60 and over must have doctor's certificate but people as old as 89 have done it. No height or weight (within reason) restrictions. But people who are pregnant, have breathing problems (eg, asthmatics), people with back problems, or people who smell strongly of drink will NOT be allowed to jump. Jumpers should arrive at least 30 minutes before the event and participants should allow TWO HOURS for the whole jumping experience. Fancy dress IS allowed. But nothing in pockets - obviously!

THE COST:  Minimum sponsorship will be £150 but every jumper has to pay a £30 booking fee in advance. Total £180 minimum. We will accept sponsorship totals of just under £150 but please note there will be incentives on offer for people to get as much sponsorship as possible. This could include cash prizes, T-shirts, gift/restaurant vouchers, certificates, filming of your jump etc. Details to be finalised. Booking fee £30 payment by cash, postal order, cheque or BACS - BACS details at the bottom plus address to send by post - and MUST be paid in full by 5PM MONDAY MAY 12. Full sponsorship monies to be in no later than four weeks after the event. Again, by cash, postal order, cheque or BACS. For booking fee and then sponsorship monies, please send payment with your full name and contact phone number and email address if you have one. If sending by post strongly recommend you send registered post. Cheques/postal orders made payable to 'Carlisle Mencap Ltd'. You can also drop off payments by hand at:
A) Carlisle Mencap's main office, Unit J3, Duchess Avenue, Kingmoor Park North, Carlisle CA6 4SN; B) Our Doves Cafe in Chapel Street, Carlisle, between 10am and 3pm TUESDAYS & WEDNESDAYS ONLY.

CAGE RIDES Depending how many people take part in the sponsored bungee jumps, there may also be a chance for your friends and family - who will no doubt come along to support you! – to pay a £5 fee for a CAGE RIDE. This allows you to go up in a cage to top of crane but you don't do the jump - just admire the view!

PLEASE NOTE: Winds gusting above 20-25mph means jumping can’t take place. A new date will be fixed if this is the case. Also, there will be press coverage before, during and after the event. Please let us know if you would rather NOT be photographed by the press or for our charity’s social media sites if the situation arises.
